1. Horsey Art
From the horses they ride to the boots they wear, equestrian style is all about leather. It is warm, luxurious, and masculine. Cowhide (or zebra, for a fun twist) is also great.
Nothing is as traditional as a good plaid (or gingham, or buffalo check). A warm wool throw is just the thing for a warming up after a ride on a cool day.
Is there anything more preppy than a monogram? It fits in perfectly with equestrian style.
Nailheads, brass lamps, frames and good hardware are must-haves. I love unexpected metallic pops, like the inside of this lampshade.
Deep green, pure red, navy blue, regal purple, dark browns, mustard and off-blacks. If Ralph Lauren would do it, you're on the right track.
One of the best applications of equestrian style is in the Kentucky home of fashion designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka. It is equestrian through-and-through, but very tasteful, masculine, and classic. You can view the entire house at Elle Decor.
