burl wood

I'm totally enamored with burl wood.

The pattern of burl wood is the result of damage to the tree (bugs, fungus, stress) and it's pretty rare. And so beautiful!

I'd love to see this antique burl walnut in person. It was posted to Craigslist New Orleans, I can only imagine the kind of treasures you can find on that site. Amazing!

Do you like the burled look, or would you paint right over it?

I have a beautiful round table that I hauled out of the garbage on the side of the road. As I started to peel off the finish I was excited to find burled wood! I'm with you in that I love the look of it. Will post pictures when I'm done refinishing it.

The first real piece of furniture I bought was a burled wood desk. I had a picture of what I wanted in my mind and wound up ordering it...custom...from Italy. It had a green. leather insert. I thought it was amazing.

I laugh when I think about it. I was young and fancied myself to be far more formal than I am.

You can't see the wood very well from the angle of the picture, but here's what it looked like: http://www.smallchichome.com/2009/08/did-i-do-that.html
