This morning, I took a look at which posts have been the most popular since I started Roost two years ago. It's fun to see which posts people like best--a lot of these are among my favorites, too (especially numbers 2 & 5).

I love this guide--these are the places I actually shop for one project or another every single week.

This one should really be titled "20 Ideas for Filling Any Large Wall Space." 

4. How to Arrange Bed Pillows

This guide has been pinned more than 15,000 times!

5. My Draper Chest IKEA Hack

I still adore these little dressers! But if I did this project again, I would not use spray paint and I'd use O'verlays for the gold parts.

I think what I like are the punchy colors and the pastoral scenes. And what's weird about kitschy stuff like this is that more is more. 

If you're into it, Etsy is a vintage paint-by-numbers gold mine. There are literally thousands.

swan princess nursery

I told you, I'm going nursery crazy around here!

The wallpaper in this design is one of my favorites--"Swan Lake" by Nina Campbell. She makes the most beautiful, feminine prints with colors that are to die for. Plus lots of birds, so I'm sold. And I discovered something fun on their website-- free iPhone wallpapers of some of the patterns! I downloaded these:

gender-neutral nursery progress

 A while back, I my client Erinn sent me some pictures of the nursery I designed for her. The room wasn't quite finished, baby came... and you know this story doesn't end with a totally done room. The art still needs to be hung and the rug put out, but that's beside the point. 

The point is, even if you don't finish, just starting gets you pretty far. Don't you agree?

petit prince nursery design

fabrics that go with everything

There are a few fabrics that just go with everything. When I'm stuck on a design or it needs a pull-together, the problem is almost always gets fixed by one of these.

La Fiorentina

David Hicks for Lee Jofa

Funny story... I don't actually love this pattern in any colorway but berry and red. It's a statement pattern, but you'd be surprised how well it "goes." The pillows above are available at Woody Liana.

Betwixt

Celerie Kemble for Schumacher

Betwixt is more a statement of texture than pattern-- I've seen/used it loads of times, but I still like running my hands over it to feel the texture.

This pattern is awesome--recognize it as my (current) blog background? I think it can look equally at home in a modern hotel and a country home, depending on the color.

museum modern e-design

It's been a long time since I posted any of my design projects! I love this one. 

My client Ashley wanted a cohesive, modern room and a color scheme that would coordinate with the primary colors in some art she has. Rather than go matchy, I picked museum style grey-blues with colorful accents. There's no better complement to art than grey-blue!
