trending: oxblood

I've been waiting to see when the brick red and taupes of the mid-90s would make a return... HERE WE ARE. It's browner than crimson, redder than burgundy, darker than scarlet, and totally on trend:
"Oxblood."

The name is so... gory (Happy Halloween?). But it's THE color this Fall, they say.

I could see using it in small doses, but I've never been much of a red fan.

Like?

black window trim

Vogue
Add this to the list of "things to do when we buy a house":
Black. Window. Trim.

Even without grand windows, painting the trim black makes them so important and dramatic.

Would you do it?

etsy antiquing

I love antiques--glamorous old stuff is so beautiful (bonus if it's slightly decrepit). The problem is, I don't really like antique stores. They smell gross. And forget finding treasures at Goodwill, that has happened to me exactly never.

My favorite place to find old accessories with character is Etsy! It's easily searchable antique shopping without the smell or frustration. Just like regular old antique shopping, there are good prices and totally ridiculous ones. Here are some beautiful antiques I've been coveting:

Botanical Charts from Bonnie & Bell

Art Nouveau Brass Hangers from Ma Maison Francaise
(No clue what you'd do with these big, heavy things... but they're gorgeous.)

Dictionary Sheet from Green Shed Vintage

Black Horse Lamp from High Street Market

(Expensive) Persian Rug from Old New House

Have you found any great antiques on Etsy?

biltmore estate

This weekend, my parents are coming to visit and we're taking a short trip out to Asheville, NC to see the fall leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway (possibly my favorite thing in all the world) and tour the beautiful Biltmore Estate.

May I draw your attention to the hanging lanterns? The suzani on the settee? The incredible ceiling details? The mere fact that they had an indoor "winter garden" room?

It's probably strange that, of all the beautiful things in this incredible house, the indoor swimming pool is one of my favorites. I love the tile, brass, wood, and rope.

The Biltmore is about as close to a castle as you'll get in America, and I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Have a lovely weekend!

peacock punch

These are the textiles for a master bedroom design I did recently. My client Leigh Anne wanted a calm, serene room with a few punches and she loves patterned fabrics. (It's not all pattern, the duvet and shams are white!)

In my opinion, the fuchsia pillow totally completes it.
Like I said-- La Fiorentina solves all problems.

Have a design challenge you'd like help tackling? Lets work together!

living room: gold

I've been working on my house a little here and there. It's so far from done! But I took a few snaps of some recent updates to my living room-- I love a little glam and I love neutrals... marry those two and you get GOLD. A whole lotta gold. Forgive how bizarre that looks right now.

First priority was a light fixture for the living room. I wanted a chandelier but thought I'd have to settle for a drum shade. I didn't think I could find a chandelier I liked that was in my price range and would work for the room. But I did!

Second update are the frames by the windows. I had some silhouettes I made hanging there before, but I never really felt like they "went." So I put up these vintage golden frames (inside: part of my favorite impressionist painting and an old illustration of ballerinas).

I also painted these. I despise spray paint, and I can tell you now that it's horrible for high-use items. I like the tables about 50% of the time, we'll see if they stay or get replaced with something that attracts fewer fingerprints.

I'm hot on the trail of a rug, wall art, and pillows... NOT in gold :)

zara home usa online shop!

I may need to update my little list of favorite affordable online decor shops... Zara Home is launching an online shop for the US next week!

These are just a few of my favorite things from the UK shop-- florals, animal motifs, graphic prints, brass.
Love. October 9!
